Welcome to Mission INC! Inuyasha no Chichi means "Inuyasha's father," and this is
a small site devoted to changing the misconception that
Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru's father actually has a name. He doesn't! And we don't know why!
But he is never named in the manga,
the anime, or even in the movie in which he appears.
So what about the name Inutaisho? "Inutaisho" has become so recognized
that it is confused with canon. What is canon? Canon is anything "official" in the
story. In Inuyasha, some consider the manga to be the ulimate canon, but the anime
is also canon in its way. But the name Inutaisho was actually created by the fanfic
author Catwho, and has been used in many fics since then. The more people that
used it, the more it was confused with canon, which there is also a word for, fanon.
Here's what Catwho had to say:
"I wanted to write a story about his parents, since it hadn't been
touched yet in the storyline of either the manga or the anime.
Unfortunately, neither of his parents had names at the time.
I went by what I *thought* Myouga had said during one of the
episodes in the mid-forties. Myouga mumbles, so while he was
saying "Inu no Taisho," I heard "Inu-Taisho." I liked the sound of it,
asked around on the mailing list, and no one objected to the
way it sounded. Since my story was one of the first long ones dealing with his parents,
at the time it was quite popular, and many people used the name."
In the manga and anime, Inuyasha's father is usually
referred to as "Inuyasha's father," or the phrase that Inutaisho derives from, "Inu no taisho."
("Taisho" or "taishou," depending on how you romanize it.)
Inu no taisho is basically just a title, and means "Leader of Dogs," or "Dog's Leader."
In the manga, this phrase itself is only used a total of two times, first by Toutousai
in chapter 124 (or volume 13, ch 6), and last by Housenki in chapter 319 (or volume 33, ch 1). (Though
when I last checked, the whole Meidou thing hadn't happened yet. Could have been used in there too,
but I can't check the scripts right now.)
What about Touga? In the third Inuyasha movie, Tenka Hadou no Ken, Inuyasha's mother is given
a (anime canon, at least) name, Izayoi. It was spoken during the movie, and printed on movie merchandise and in the credits.
There were rumors that Inuyasha's father would be named Touga. Touga was supposedly used on the storyboards
for the the movie, but never made it into the offical production. Also, on the movie soundtrack,
it was said that a track was going to be called "Touga no Negai," but again, when
the soundtrack was released, the track name had been changed to "Chichi no Negai" (Father's Wishes).
In the movie
program that was given out at the theaters in Japan, the actor voicing him is
listed as "Inuyasha no chichi." Ultimately, Touga, nor
any other name, has ever been listed officially for him.
Inuyasha's father has no name; he'll probably remain nameless forever. But there are
so many people out there who think that he does have a name! So
spread the word and clear up the confusion! If you have an Inuyasha page, link back to this site!
Tell your friends! Etc! And, take the pledge!
I know that Inuyasha's father has no name! Takahashi left him nameless for (an unknown)
reason, and who am I to question Takahashi?
Just send your name/moniker and email and stand up for Inuyasha's father's
namelessness! Oh yeah, and check out some more pics.
